For my birthday last Wednesday, I didn't even have any particular plans. I just thought for a moment and said, "Let's go see the Cloud Gardens, then have Italian food for lunch, and then find the cutest coffeeshop and have some coffee." And that was it! Looked like keeping it simple was becoming the motto of my life.
Let me tell you, Cloud Gardens is one the most instagrammable hidden gems in Toronto. It's a tiny indoor tropical garden that is an absolute must-see, whether you live here or are visiting. Once you're done frantically taking snaps of every single corner of the cute two-storey garden, take a minute to just wander. It's incredibly peaceful, calm and beautiful in there! After the garden closes its doors at 2.30 pm, you can explore the urban jungle park right outside. You can watch the waterfalls in the heart of downtown, how cool is that? So worth coming with your significant other.
For the birthday lunch we went to Little Italy. Italian food is my favourite, and I couldn't imagine anything else to eat on my own special day. The majority of fancier restaurants open at 5 pm, so we went for more casual Il Gatto Nero. By the way, it was only this summer that I discovered sangria (I know, I know), and as of now, white wine sangria is my favourite drink. Don't really have much to compare with, but I'd say It Gatto Nero makes a pretty decent one. As for their pizzas, they're really good, but make sure you specify that you want your spicy food to be actually spicy!
We skipped the tiramisu. Because as for a dessert, I had a quirky birthday girl thing in mind - I wanted to eat my birthday cake substitute surrounded by the cutest interior possible :) Toronto is booming with cute-looking cafes right now, and I've been reading lots of articles about them. We picked Cafe Cancan that I thought would be a coffee shop, but turned out to be an actual restaurant. It felt bit weird coming in for just coffee and sweets, but it was my birthday so anything was allowed! The cafe itself is painted pink, possibly with Parisian vibes in mind. The terrace looks like all the backyard patio ideas from Pinterest thrown together. But... even though it was very cute, it felt a little too much and in your face. It turned me off that it was obviously built to be Instagrammed, so I didn't take a single photo. Although if you search for it, you'll see hundreds of the same thing! Since I aim to come across more relatable than perfectly staged, I took my usual snap of what was on my table and went with it. Maybe next time I'll be in the mood to sit down in the pink corner looking all dreamy? Well, I'll need a reservation for that :)
After this little adventure, we had nothing planned, so just wandered around until we got totally caught up in heavy rain and had to take Uber. It was already about 8 pm, and the day was done. I'd say it was a great one, and I'm very happy to be turning twenty-seven!
P. S. Shout out to all the fellow Leos out there - it's our time to shine :) xo
